HN comment orderI looked at YaCy not too long ago. It's an interesting technology but needs an economic incentive to work as a Google replacement, I think. If system activity was (carefully and judiciously) tied to cryptocurrency payouts it'd probably experience hockey-stick growth.
Peer-to-peer Information Retrieval is one of those old research topics that face the difficult to solve problem of scalability. YaCy is yet an early contributor to this research but we've yet to make something to my knowledge that gives comparable results to centralised search engines, is fast and scales well.

This is the main reason I would support this search engine. Because it's anti-censorship and hard to stop. They would still need to make it great, but I'm listening.
