HN comment orderThe first thing I tried to find on their website and their GitHub was a protocol specification, to be able to implement it independently from the reference implementation. I thought this would be straightforward since it’s advertised as a scheme/protocol, but such a spec isn’t referenced anywhere! Digging on my own I eventually found [1] on a side-branch of one of their other GitHub projects. Kudos to the author: I think it actually covers a lot of what you’d need…
I started using yggdrasil yesterday. The ability to get a static IPv6 address on a meshnet, with encrypted traffic by default, and the option to only accept inbound connections from public keys I trust is incredibly cool. Just like that I can access any of my devices that run ygg from anywhere using standard tools like git or ssh (or git-annex). It makes it really easy to network my devices together without having to screw around with split tunneling a…
Is Yggdrasil still using raw truncated ed25519 keys to determine the treespace root node? [1] If so, this seems to be an obvious network availability vulnerability. [2] [1]: https://yggdrasil-network.github.io/2021/06/19/preparing-for... [2]: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27577201#27580938
Although we've had a couple of mentions on HN in the past, Yggdrasil has not really had a formal introduction here - we were keen to introduce Yggdrasil as a project rather than as a couple of version point releases. With that in mind, I'd like to introduce our project - the Yggdrasil Network (https://yggdrasil-network.github.io) - a proof-of-concept network to explore how we can build a decentralised IP network without the traditional scaling problems that other protocols tend to face…
