HN comment orderNeXTSTEP was beautiful, clean, and elegant. How is it that the Gnustep pseudo-copies, such as Etoile, can be so ugly and inconsistent? Everything from nasty font choices to the inconsistent and weird spacing between widgets to the weird mishmash of UI styles. You'd think that the entire selling point (so to speak) of software like this is that it retains the elegance of NeXTSTEP, but no. I'm involved with Étoilé, and am the lead developer on a framework called CoreObject (https://github.com/etoile/CoreObject) - it's an object persistence framework something like CoreData except it's also a DVCS. We're going to properly launch a website for it and do an alpha release in a few weeks, but thought I would mention it since this is where most of the development on Étoilé is happening right now.
I've been looking at this project for a couple of months now, mostly because it's the closest you can come to OS X and the Cocoa framework on your Linux PC.
