I like maximalist prompts, and indeed Starship is what Shell Bling Ubuntu [1] installs on a new dev machine. But they're not everyone's cup of tea. If I wanted to recommend to someone the min-maxed, highest density thing they could add to their prompt, it would simply be the time your current prompt appeared + the amount of time the last command you ran took. I've been using Starship for quite some time, and it's awesome! Definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a fast, modern, and rich prompt. Besides the product, the community is pleasantly awesome as well. I've contributed a module to it and the maintainer has done a good job reviewing and testing. Heck, they even have a Discord server for contributors.

I have absolutely no idea what this is.

I love starship. Compiled binary, so it's extremely fast. I've tried a number of alternative prompt approaches in the past, but they've almost all been script based approaches, and the delay as the prompt message was generated was always palpable to me. Starship has been the only one I've stuck with, primarily because of just how fast it is.
