HN comment orderInteresting. Not clear if they got the big lesson of QNX vs. Mach - scheduler and interprocess message coordination is crucial to microkernel performance. The relevant pages of their "book" are blank. I'm trying to find the interprocess communication primitives and can't. Anyone know where that's documented? I notice they put an ELF loader for executables in the kernel. It's better to have the loader outside the kernel. See this Linux vulnerability.[1] They may get there; they don't have shared…
It's certainly an impressive feat of engineering, but I'd really like to see a new OS project that isn't a Unix clone. OS development is a monumentally large endeavour and in my eyes it seems like a waste to dedicate that level of energy to copy something in a new programming language.
How usable is it in a VM? Is it gnu or posix compatible?
Not particularly aimed at this project, but I'm wondering if operating systems are still evolving from a functional point of view. Somehow it feels as if we're stuck with the functional requirements that were posed back in the 70s, when Unix was invented. On the other hand, I guess that the simpler an OS, the better; so perhaps its functionality should also minimally evolve.
