HN comment orderI love a light hearted thing every now and then, and this tickles me very much! Reminds me of a "user locator" website I once saw. It claimed to use advanced algorithms to locate the person using the website, so when you clicked go it spent a while printing various "reticulating splines" type technobabble before finally showing a picture of a big finger pointing at the user with big H1 text saying "You are right there".
These are all photos that look like they were taken with disposable cameras in the early 2000s. First thought was "why do all of these look like they were taken at my college parties?"
I made a quick video explaining how the webapp works: http://youtu.be/Z2ZXW2HBLPM Essentially, using the gridPositions.json to populate a Voronoi Grid (toggle display of the <canvas> in your browser). Then your cursor position is used against the grid to find which shape encloses it which maps back to the source JPEG which is then displayed.
This is an old project by Studio Moniker (Amsterdam)… I was once at a presentation of their work at Resonate in Belgrade (memories…) and they explained that the slight delay before the reveal of the underlying image is added artificially to add a bit of drama. Btw, the correct image is loaded through a Voronoi diagram.
