Seeing a programming language in your native language after working with English ones, you discover that it looks and sounds pretty ridiculous. My belief is that the native language is ingrained on a low level in the brain, so it's decoded ‘in the hardware’ and directly invokes meanings and associations, whereas a second language goes through at least some level of conscious processing. The very same way, I'm physically unable to shut off the brain's frantic search for meaning when…

Create a non-English based programming language is very different from translating a english programming language. Different languages have different ways to express time, state, etc. If one translates a english programming language, it will be a translated English based programming language (not a Non-English base...) I`m a native portuguese speaker, for example. In portuguese, we "break" the "to be" verb in two forms: The "ser" verb to denominate an immutable state like "The sun is hot" and a "estar" verb…

There is a Chinese programming language [1] (better archive of the original [4]) based off the phrase 草泥马 (cǎonímǎ) meaning grass mud horse [2]. It's a meme in China because it's a homonym for 肏你妈 (càonǐmā) meaning "fuck your mother". Foreign internet culture is cool [3]. 1. https://code.google.com/archive/p/grass-mud-horse/ 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grass_Mud_Horse 3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_phenomena_in_... 4. http://zqcoder.qiniucdn.com/data/20120914162548/index.html

Back in the '80s, at the University of Buenos Aires the first intro to algorithms course was taught using the Spanish-based TIMBA language. It was a kind of Pascal/ pseudocode language that we used to program an imaginary one-armed robot to perform some tasks on a deck of cards. We would write a program for sorting the cards by number, or pick all cards with the number 2, things like that. I think it was a good idea for those…
