The main benefit they're giving is that you can use `npm` instead of `yum` or `aur` or whatever the package manager you use is. IMO, you're better off using Nix if you are tired of your package manager.

It looks dead. I think they chose the wrong approach in lots of ways, but it wasn't that far from a JS (and Typescript) based OS on top of Linux that is actually a good idea. ChromeOS is kind of close to what I'd want, if you could remove Google from it. So a quick look through the github repo, it appears that Node OS is : 1.) New Init Process 2.) New Shell 3.) NPM as a package manager Not really an "OS" in the traditional terms, but not just a distro. It uses glibc like most other distros.
