As is the case for seemingly all these open source competitors, one notably already needs to have a network connection between the systems a-priori for this to work. Bluetooth or wifi-p2p networking is still largely untouched, with only Apple and Google having proprietary options, and both being tied to your user account.

I highly recommend this tool. It is no-bs with a good UI and gets the job done across all my computers and smartphones.
