This was an interesting comment thread, and honestly you have to hand it to Linus for continuing to respond and expand on his viewpoints in a pretty level-headed way. Also, I was reading through it on a phone, which brought to light an interesting point regarding the hard line-wrapping discussion that occurs further on down the thread: when you hard-wrap your lines, you're also defining a minimum line width, under which lines break in awful jagged ways. Is it ironic that his comments are harder to read (on mobiles) precisely because of his weird self-imposed word wrapping? I get it. His arguments make sense because they don’t want to bake in a specific “start block quote character”, and without that generic word wrapping is quite difficult (even though everyone uses >). But not every tool suffers from this issue and it’s quite annoying to read text like this Linus
Has anybody looked through the comments from Linus? Pretty arrogant. I hope he only had a bad day otherwise people with a different opinion around him will have a hard time.
