Jodd – The Unbearable Lightness of Java

I think there is a huge need for these kind of frameworks. They combine the convention over configuration productivity and tooling that rails and its clones provide, while letting users tap into the massive java ecosystem. Others like this include dropwizard and spring boot, but there's always room for more. Java ain't perfect, but a lot of hard problems have been solved for the ecosystem and building on top of those solutions will save teams time and money.

I remember the days, when the Spring framework was advertised as a lightweight alternative to Enterprise java beans (ejb); now Spring outgrew the pretence of being lightweight, don't know when that happened. A year and a half ago, i got back to work with java and spring boot, and i was overwhelmed by the prevalence of annotations in spring boot. Interesting business model: collect useful utilities, document them, and also offer consulting services. I spent some time looking over a couple Jodd libraries and frameworks, and I felt some nostalgia for my past use of Java. I also always used Java ‘lightly’, avoiding J2EE unless the work really paid well. Now professionally my work is in Python (I have been close to 100% deep learning for about four years), and I use Haskell and Common Lisp for my personal projects…
