This article is megalomaniacal. Insisting that your company with 200+ employees will only hire people who will work themselves to the bone without any mention of how those people will be properly compensated is wild corporate propaganda. I honestly don’t know why the tech industry continues to capitulate to leaders like this who obviously, and loudly, mistreat and dehumanize their employees by insisting that if you are not obsessed and willing to put in incredible energy into someone else’s project…

I didn't realize "caring" meant "being exploitable" as in "working extra hard for no extra pay." I guess I just don't care.

I thought the internet had already debated and come to the conclusion that long hours are a terrible expectation and even worse signal of productivity/effectiveness/etc... Why in 2020 is anyone writing blogs about only hiring people who will work overtime for them?

I feel like for the broad median of us, there’s a balance between giving a shit and healthy detachment. Unless you’re at the top, I don’t think working 90 hours a week in with tunnel vision will make you happy, you’ll probably end up burned out and possibly cast aside in a reorg. On the flip side, I cringe at the posts that go too far in the other direction emphasizing it’s just a job and the job doesn’t love…
