Almost certainly a result of the spaces cabal and the (often unspoken of) prejudice against tab users. Don't think you make hiring decisions based on tabs vs spaces? Well you're part of the problem, then. I'm building an app to help you easily email your congressperson and ask them to create legislation requiring space/tab equality. This has to stop. This is a huge effect. Implausibly huge? I'm reminded of Gelman et al's piranhas: http://www.stat.columbia.edu/~gelman/research/unpublished/pi.... The "folk theorem" version is that you can't have very many independent variables that all have large effects on salary. Saying that spaces vs tabs has a 10% effect is tantamount to saying that its one of the ten (or fewer) most important things about a developer. So there must be a confounder. What could it be? - Do the top schools all instruct students…

Hopefully nobody uses an article like this to really inform their decision on which to use. Last month there was a reddit discussion that outlined some really compelling accessibility-related reasons to use tabs, worth a read: https://www.reddit.com/r/javascript/comments/c8drjo/nobody_t...

The one who makes the most money uses tab on the keyboard which gets converted by the editor into spaces in the code.
