HN comment orderHi all! I'm the editor of this post. I love traveling, and have always wondered how reservations systems worked. This post explores that. In the future, we're hoping to write a piece about how air fare pricing works too. ITA Software (acquired by Google) built its own non-mainframe GDS, and then ARS, which integrated into the legacy mainframe network. If you just look up some of these concepts and protocols, it looks cryptic but doable, but it's harder than it looks, and there's also some less-straightforward opcodes.
