HN comment orderThere's one important question I haven't seen on here that's saved me on more than one occasion. "Are there any concerns you may have that I can address that may lead you to believe I'm not the right candidate?" I've been able to address: lack of previous experience, lack of a degree, time in between jobs, time spent at the last job, all thanks to this question.
"If you could change one thing about the company, what would you change?" It takes people off-guard and sometimes you get a really authentic look at the problems in the company. I think people are more willing to be frank with the question because it's asking for their insight, even if it comes at the expense of the company's reputation. I'd add a few more along these lines re ai 1. what's your view on ai? 2. have you already done a restructure, and when is it coming if not? 3. how much ai budget a developer gets per month? re the process 1. how decisions are made? 2. what would I own in 6 months? 3. what are current biggest technical challenges the team/company faces?
Am I replacing someone? Why did that person leave? Is the company profitable? Will I be in a cube? Office? Hot seat on a big table? Is there a technical career ladder? Are engineers valued here?
