HN comment orderThought this was the perfect place to share a project I've been working on for a few years: https://asm-editor.specy.app It's an interactive online IDE for many assembly languages, currently M68K, MIPS, RISC-V and X86 (I need to improve X86). It has a ton of features that are made to teach assembly programming, and it can be embedded in other websites.
It's very common for people to learn assembly using x86(-64) but this ISA is so messy, complicated and layered that it always seems like the bad choice to me. It's like teaching an intro programming course using C++, I understand why it's practical but it seems like it will be more trouble than it's worth. I'd probably recommend getting some ARM or ARM64 board and starting with this, most of the concepts will carry over to other assemblies anyway. Writing…
