GrapheneOS – A privacy and security-focused mobile OS with Android compatibility

Librem seems to have the correct way forward, reject the big mess of Android and catch up to it with completely Open pieces. https://puri.sm/products/librem-5/ They're making good progress and I can't wait to be able to update my handheld device with mainline pieces for as long as anyone who still uses one cares to update it. Currently my Samsung Android device is at Dec 2018 patchlevel and nothing I can do about it.

I use this daily on one of my devices and I am a huge fan. I experience better battery life, better app speed, and obviously appreciate the decreased telemetry and more cautious memory allocator, among many other beneficial changes. For those who are considering it though, its worth noting that the community has a very... Confrontational style of correcting others though. Not a dealbreaker, but a nuisance. Graphene is pretty cool in theory, but I found it to be a huge pain. The Play sandboxing is great, again in theory, but it leaves too much broken. You should install Graphene if and only if you have zero need for steam, discord, or anything not in F-Droid AND you actively want to use your phone less. It makes your device drastically less desirable and useful. If all you ever do on your phone is open a web browser…

This looks awesome. Has anyone here actually tried it for your day to day/daily driver? I don’t have any of the supported phones to test on so I’d be eager to hear opinions from those who’ve used this.
