HN comment orderI'd also highly recommend the redbook (readings in databases) which is by several luminaries in the database world including Peter Bailis, Joe Hellerstein, and Michael Stonebraker. Plugging in Andy Pavlo's Database lectures @ CMU which are completely free on Youtube. Great guy and great lectures.
