HN comment orderIf FLT hadn't already been proven then Feynman's argument would explain away the substantial numerical evidence collected in it's favor. In other words, it would suggest that FLT is just a statistical accident and true for no particular reason. Of course, we now know that FLT is related to deep ideas in number theory.

Love that quote: "the main job of theoretical physics is to prove yourself wrong as soon as possible." I try and apply it to programming and computer systems. Test test test, prototype before you commit millions of dollars and hours to something that might not work very well. Unfortunately not everyone sees it my way.
