The problem will solve itself when the price of an ipv4 address becomes prohibitive. Either that, or telcos will see ipv4 addresses as a valuable source of revenue and intentionally drag their feet. And then the internet will die.

This comes up every so often but it's a fundamentally broken idea and always has been. You can't fit a quart into a pint pot, and you can't fit more than 2^30 routeable endpoints into the IPv4 internet no matter how clever you are (and you'd have a terminally fragmented address space long before you reach 2^30).
