The Micromort concept is explored thoroughly and very enjoyable in the book 'The Normal Chronicles' by David Blastland and Michael Spiegelhalter. It's well worth checking out. Blastland was one of the creators of the excellent 'More or Less' on the BBC that looks at how numbers are used and mostly abused by the media, politicians and everyone else. I hate the units which you cannot easily add: 10 micromorts + 10 micromorts = 19,999999 micromorts 500 milimorts + 500 milimorts = 750 milimorts Playing russian roulette using a sixshooter loaded with 3 rounds is 50% chance of death. It's 75% if you do another try. "Adding" another try does not translate to "adding" the metric. It just adds confusion.

Funny, but what's the point? In the UK you get 24 per day for all causes, and 0.8 per day for non natural causes. First off, the specific number you get depends on how your slicing the data. A 30 yo person doesn't have the same chance of dying from "all causes" as an 80 yo one. Second, comparing sports vs all causes is useless because all causes it's not really actionable.
