What the author does not appear to understand is that extensions are written in JavaScript because Gnome shell is written in JavaScript. I always wonder why Gnome is the default in most distros. It has no API stability guarantee, so long term software investment is not possible. It actively fights against the choices of its end users. It is severely dumbed down, locking its end users in less efficient workflows. Corporate backing was an upside for providing accessibility, but a recent post here on HN stated things were quickly detoriating.
