Holy cow, that's my USENET posting. Will have to ask my sysadmin to record the HN spike. I do find it funny reading postings here basically saying that, regardless of what Patrick Naughton said, his language is actually based on C++. Wow, a pointer to an old page of mine, that's weird to see on HN. This post was originally from comp.sys.newton.misc, back when I was a PhD student. The discussion was originally about Java on the Newton, and someone had made the goofy suggestion that Java was based on NewtonScript. Goes to show that just because you model something after another, it doesn't mean they'll look or feel similar. The underlying design of Java might have been influenced by Objective C, but the use of the two languages feel very different.
