HN comment orderThe vowel shift is one of the major reasons why Shakespeare's poetry doesn't rhyme when spoken with modern English. There was a rather fascinating video that went around awhile back of a father and son demonstrating the changes.[1] [1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPlpphT7n9s
Somewhat related, there was also a "capitalisation shift" in the late 1600s where everyone (or their editors) started writing more nouns as capitalised (e.g. "The quick brown Fox jumped over the lazy Dog"), and then switched back in the mid-1700s.
