Github now publishes all DMCA takedown notices they receive here.

It's interesting to note that one of the two notices in this repository is from Sony, and appears to be demanding the removal of PS3 jailbreaking tools. The DMCA's prohibition on DRM circumvention is in a different section (17 USC 1201) from the section on copyright infringement (17 USC 512), in which the safe harbor/takedown notice stuff is defined. It's not clear to me that DRM circumvention thus qualifies as copyright infringement, or that any of the safe harbor stuff…

This reminded me of HackerRank’s SymPy incident (HackerRank (YC S11) DMCA'ed the SymPy Docs [fixed] | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31087175). They had taken down SymPy documentation claiming SymPy plagiarized their code snippets but in reality it was them using SymPy docs in their questions. Just browsing a few of the Sony DMCA notices, I can't help but notice something strange: [5] Please act expeditiously to remove the file-downloads found at the following URLs: http://www.fileserve.com/file/cWAKEDR https://github.com/kakaroto/ps3keys https://github.com/kakaroto/ps3tools ... Fair enough for the ps3keys and tools, but there's a URL for fileserve there. That's not github, wonder why they think they should send that URL to github.

Interesting. On 10/30, Qualcomm DMCA'd a few files: https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2014-10-30-Qualco... Then, a few days later on 11/10, requested to rescind their original request, for all files: https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2014-11-10-Qualco... I guess it's better than no request to rescind...
