Free private Github repos for students and edu people

I work at GitHub on all things related to education. I got a note that this was on HN, so I thought I'd drop by and offer to answer questions and provide some additional details. I used this last year, they gave me an org and private repos for the student projects without any fuzz, it was really cool to teach a course with that and we open sourced the projects afterwards (it's in spanish, though) : https://github.com/progra4 I'll definitely use it again, the students learned a lot about project management and distributed version control systems, which is something that isn't being taught as it should, at least not where I went to college.

I requested last year for an educational account ... but it never got approved. For two courses this semester I was able to manage with gh-pages [shameless advert: http://tathagata.github.com/pwndeals and http://tathagata.github.com/finmotion ], but the database course, I really wish I was able to use git ... but too big for the free membership. Also, for some assignments Professors wont like the idea that you make your code public - simply to prevent cheating and that they want to reuse assignments…

This is a great idea for students, I'm heading over there now to apply.
