HN comment orderI have an observation about scanning documents that results in good quality and smaller files, but I can't satisfactorily explain why it works. Consider these two cases: (1) Scan document at very high resolution as a JPG and then use a third-party program (like Photoshop or whatever) to re-encode the JPG at your preferred low resolution. When I was a student I often had to deal with photos of pages taken with a smartphone. To compensate for uneven illumination I used the following trick: open image in GIMP, duplicate the layer, Gaussian blur, then set blending mode to Divide. This made photos much more legible and printable.
very cool I was thinking, you could probably train a neural network to learn how to remove gridlines from the image also.
