HN comment orderThe same edition has articles about coordinates systems in graphics and Gaus-Jordan elimination method. There are circuit diagrams and program listings. It was a real trade magazine. Today that type of content is almost exclusively in in blogs. Magazines write about stuff like "The Most Important Agile Trends to Follow in 2020". It's part marketing, influencing kind fluff where people write opinions about soft issues where you can't be clearly right or wrong.
The thing to keep in mind with regard to the significance of the C language and this particular time-frame is that personal computers were becoming capable of hosting a C compiler. Today, we don't think about the ability to host a C compiler to be a constraint, but with early micro-computers it was. For instance, the Atari-era of computers, could not easily host a C-compiler. There was a version called "Deep-Blue-C" which is a subset. In fact, "compilers" were rare…
That's an SSD by rather loose analogy. It used regular semiconductor memory to implement a disk, which makes it closer to a ramdisk. The data was volatile, and would disappear without power either from the bus or from battery. If this is an SDD then a USB memory stick is also an SSD.
